Local Planning Authorities are bound under the Town & Country Planning Acts to ensure that, in granting consent for any development, adequate provision is made for the preservation and planting of trees. The timely consideration of trees on development sites can greatly assist in the passage of proposals through the planning procedure.
BS 5837:2005 (Trees in Relation to Construction) stresses the importance of pre-planning assessments of development sites to identify all trees worthy of particular consideration before development proposals are set out. Further arboricultural input may be required once plans have been finalised to ensure adequate measures are taken to protect retained trees, and to assist in the selection, positioning and successful establishment of new plantings.
By clarifying the issues of conservation, safety and amenity in relation to the specific requirements of a site, a successful integration of trees & buildings can be achieved. |
